Ability Fitness Program

  • We provide individuals with disabilities access to a non-fee-based fitness center with specialized personal trainers, ability specific equipment and an environment for healthy growth and development. Our goal is to assist each individual in exceeding personal fitness goals and perceived expectations, and in the process proving that disabilities don’t limit an individual’s ability to excel physically or mentally while fulfilling lifelong fitness.

Project Search at SUNY Upstate Medical University

  • Students participating in the hospital-based supported employment program are given membership to the gym facilities at the Campus Activities Building. Personal trainers from Syracuse University Falk School develop individualized fitness goals. Click here to learn more!

Interscholastic Unified Basketball League via Special Olympics Unified Sports

  • Unified Sports is a registered program of Special Olympics that combines approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without intellectual disability on basketball teams for training and competition. All Unified Sports players, both athletes and special partners, are of similar age and matched sport skill ability. Teams are placed in competitive divisions based on their skill abilities, and range from training divisions (with a skill-learning focus) to high level competition.

Wheelchair Basketball Program via Move Along, Inc.

  • Move Along‚ Inc. recreational wheelchair basketball team offers its participants an opportunity to have fun while keeping fit. Wheelchair basketball is a fun and energetic game that fosters peer mentoring. This program is for ages eighteen and up. Specialized basketball wheelchairs are provided but limited. A Syracuse Flyers practice jersey will be included as part of this program fee.

Recreational Wheelchair Basketball in collaboration with Move Along, Inc. & Syracuse Parks Department

  • Recreational wheelchair basketball offers its participants an opportunity to have fun while keeping fit. Wheelchair basketball is a fun and energetic game that fosters peer mentoring. This program will help to develop your wheelchair basketball skills and have some fun at the same time! All equipment will be provided, just show up with a willingness to play!

Wheelchair Basketball at Sitrin STARS

  • The STARS wheelchair basketball team features a year-round schedule of practices and games, including competition with regional teams, community groups, and local high school and college students. The team also competes annually at the New York State Fair’s wheelchair basketball tournament. The popularity of this high-energy sport attracts children, teenagers, and adults, who enjoy its intensity and camaraderie. The Sitrin Celebrity Classic Wheelchair Basketball Game, held each spring, features local celebrities and other prominent members of the community who compete chair-to-chair with the Sitrin STARS athletes. Biathalon

Biathalon Program at Sitrin STARS

  • Biathlon is a popular sport that combines target shooting and cross-country skiing. Sitrin’s biathlon training program is year-round, incorporating the use of paved trails, SkiErg® machines, and roller skis during the off-season. Sitrin’s biathletes have had the opportunity to compete at both the regional and national levels. The program is designed for training with stand-up or sit-ski equipment, depending upon the athlete’s ability. Athletes do not need to have prior skiing experience to participate. Coaches teach basic concepts and techniques involved in both skiing and shooting. Click here to learn more!

CNY Sparklers at CNY Pop Warner Challenger Team

  • An inclusive cheer program designed to reach individuals where they are at and show off their different abilities using various sensory techniques while working on gross motor skills, social skills, and just having fun! This team is completely free; they cover everything except when they travel parents have to pay their own cost. They do multiple fundraisers to help cover or ease those expenses. All are welcome to join, boys and girls ages 5+ and there’s no cap on age. They work with everyone’s cognitive abilities and individualize and tailor what they do based on each child’s specific needs.

Adaptive Climbing Group

  • We meet every 2 weeks on Fridays at 6:30-9pm at the Central Rock Gym in Syracuse (600 N Franklin St, Syracuse, NY 13204). Sessions cost $10 which includes a day pass, rental gear, use of our assisted devices, and a team of trained volunteers to help belay you on the wall. Click here to learn more!

  • During the winter, the STARS Program offers wheelchair curling in conjunction with the Utica Curling Club (UCC), which operates one of the country’s premier curling facilities. Currently, all members of the United States Wheelchair Curling National Team are also members of the Sitrin STARS. Sled Hockey

Sled Hockey at Move Along, Inc.

  • Sled Hockey is very similar to ice hockey with the exception of equipment. Participants use specially designed sleds which sit atop two ice hockey skate blades. Each player has two short hockey sticks with metal picks on the end which are used to propel him/her across the ice. The Sled Hockey program is designed for both beginners and experienced players of all ages. The Sled Hockey program provides its participants with sleds, hockey sticks, and a helmet to use during practices and games. Click here to learn more!

CNY United Power Soccer Team

  • CNY United is a competitive power wheelchair soccer team based out of Syracuse, NY and part of the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA). Power soccer is the first competitive team sport developed and designed specifically for wheelchair users. The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four players attack, defend, and spin-kick a 13-inch soccer ball in a skilled and challenging game. Click here to learn more!

Community Recreation at ARC of Onondaga

  • Provides activities in the community for adults and teens with developmental disabilities. Programs are designed to educate individuals of various recreational opportunities that exist in the community and help them to meet new people, develop friendships, and have fun. Adult Recreation: Provides short term respite for family members of individuals with developmental disabilities who are ages 18 years or older and live in a non-certified residence in Onondaga County. League Bowling: Offers a bowling league for anyone ages 18 years and older with a developmental disability.
