Accessible Vehicles
Where to begin:
Step 1: Reach out to your care manager to discuss opportunities for accessible transportation in the community.
Step 2: If your child needs accessible transportation to pursue employment, check to see if they meet the eligibility requirements for ACCES-VR. For more information about eligibility and services, attend an Orientation Session or click here to view a helpful video.
Step 2a: If your child meets the initial eligibility requirements, complete the ACCES-VR Application for Services as a fillable PDF or by contacting your local ACCES-VR District Office for a paper version of the application. For an overview of the application process, watch this brief video.
Step 2b: When you send ACCES-VR your application, also consider including additional documentation that will be needed to determine if your child is eligible for ACCES-VR services. Click here for info about additional documentation.
Please note: If your child is ineligible for services via ACCES-VR, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3: Look into other funding sources for wheelchair accessible vehicles and modifications. Your search may include criteria such as diagnosis. Also ask your care manager for support in identifying resources.

Please note: OPWDD does not supply a list of vehicles that are eligible for modification. The vehicle modification process is highly individualized, so OPWDD recommends getting a clinical evaluation first, which can then guide discussions with dealerships about the type of vehicle to pursue.
